Four-star Irmo wide receiver, priority South Carolina target reclassifies to 2025

Four-star Irmo wide receiver, priority South Carolina target reclassifies to 2025

Irmo (S.C.) four-star wide receiver Donovan Murph, a priority South Carolina recruiting target, is planning to get a head start on college life.

Murph is reclassifying from the 2026 class to 2025, he announced Tuesday, effectively moving up his recruitment an entire year.

“This has always been in my mind,” Murph told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Malachi Toney did it this year. Ryan Williams did it last year. I knew I had the opportunity and the ability to do it, so I put the work in and will graduate next spring.”

“I thought really hard about it,” he continued. “I have talked to some schools about it and my parents put the decision on me. This was my decision and I have decided to get to college early, play as a 17 year old in college and try to reach my goals sooner.”

The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder was last at South Carolina two weekends ago when the Gamecocks hosted Akron, a 50-7 win for the home team.

“That was awesome,” Murph told GamecockCentral.com. “I got to bring my whole family out, so they got to experience that in person. It was my grandma’s first game. It was a good experience for her, so got to see them smile a little bit.”

Murph, ranked a four-star prospect and now the No. 352 overall prospect in the 2025 class, has a strong relationship with wide receivers coach Mike Furrey.

“It’s great,” he said of his relationship with the Gamecocks staff. “I talk to them really every day. They send me stuff every day. Me and Coach Furrey, we’re really tight. He’s really like another father figure to me. He teaches me a lot of stuff, not just about football. We talk about life and stuff, I’m cool with his wife, we all just have a good relationship. His son plays at Chapin, we play against them, friendly competition, work out together.”

Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech are all also in the mix.

“I want to narrow my list down more first, then schedule official visits and then make my decision,” Murph told On3. “Some schools knew about me reclassifying, so I want to see who really wants me as a 2025 recruit. I will learn soon the schools that stay with me really believe in my talent.”
