Four-star 2026 TE Jamel Howse commits to Shane Beamer and South Carolina

Four-star 2026 TE Jamel Howse commits to Shane Beamer and South Carolina

Newberry (SC) High On300 2026 tight end Jamel Howse committed to South Carolina on Saturday, choosing the Gamecocks over an offer list that also included Louisville, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Cincinnati among others.

The four-star Howse becomes commit No. 4 for head coach Shane Beamer and his staff in the class, a haul that’s pushing towards the Top 10 of the On3 Industry Rankings early in the cycle.

“The coaches,” Howse said of what made South Carolina right for him. “It’s also close to home.”

The Gamecocks offered the 6-foot-4, 215-pound Howse back in December 2023. He attended the spring game in April and returned for the LSU game in September. He believes in the direction Beamer is taking the program and looks forward to playing for him.

“What really excites me about Coach Beamer is that he’s a wonderful coach so if I need anything I know he’ll be the person I’ll go to,” Howse said.

Howse raved about each of his past experiences in Columbia.

“Their fanbase is amazing,” Howse said. “The coaches are wonderful people. They make me feel like I’m at home.

“The environment is amazing. I love how they are all family up there and how much they love football. They have a strong reputation and dedicated fanbase.”

The On3 Industry ranks Howse as the nation’s No. 9 tight end and No. 198 prospect overall. On3 is slightly higher tabbing him the No. 7 tight end in the country and No. 151 player overall. He is the No. 2 prospect in the state.
