Early look at SMU-TCU odds, spread, how to watch

Early look at SMU-TCU odds, spread, how to watch

After its 18-15 loss to BYU, it isn’t surprising to see the SMU Mustangs as an underdog to TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet, but it’s a close one, at the moment. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the TCU Horned Frogs are currently 1.5-point favorites. The over/under is also set at 58.5 total points.

SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee knows his team will need to be ready. On Saturday, Lashlee’s looking for his first win over Sonny Dykes. Against the Horned Frogs, Lashlee will start Kevin Jennings at quarterback, announcing the new starter last week.

“It’s good football team. I think they’re going to have a chance to win the Big 12,” Lashlee said last week. “But, you know, SMU-TCU, we’re always excited for that opportunity.”

TCU fell to UCF in its Big 12 opener, 35-34, allowing the Knights to come from behind in Amon G. Carter Stadium Saturday night. Dykes felt like the lack of a run game for the Horned Frogs allowed Gus Malzahn’s team to chip away at the lead.

“We got up 31-13 and they just hung in there and kept chipping away,” Dykes said in his postgame press conference. “We had a hard time getting off the field defensively and had a three-and-out right there at the midpoint of the fourth quarter. I think we kind of wore down on defense.”

This game is one of the longest standing college football rivalries in the state of Texas. The Dallas-Ft. Worth rivalry matchup has been played since 1915 and this year’s version will be the 103rd time they have clashed. The last scheduled matchup is set for 2025 in Ft. Worth with this year’s edition being the last at SMU.
