DJ Uiagalelei injury update: Troubling prognosis emerges on Florida State QB, per report

In Florida State‘s loss to SMU on Saturday, Seminoles quarterback DJ Uiagalelei suffered a hand injury in the fourth quarter and was replaced by backup QB Brock Glenn. On Monday, 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported there is concern Uiagalelei’s hand injury may be a long-term issue.

Further, On3’s Pete Nakos learned Uiagalelei has received an initial X-ray and is expected to undergo an MRI on his hand. On the play Uiagalelei injured his hand, he threw a pick-six to SMU. It was only one of the numerous mistakes Uiagalelei made on Saturday.

In the loss, Uiagalelei completed five of his first six passes to lead the Seminoles to a touchdown on their opening drive. However, Uiagalelei failed to find the end zone again until midway through the third quarter.

He didn’t score again before injuring his hand and leaving the game. In the loss, Uiagalelei only completed 12-of-30 pass attempts for 222 yards and two touchdowns while throwing three interceptions.

After replacing DJ Uiagalelei, Glenn failed to connect on any of his four pass attempts. On Monday, Florida State listed Uiagalelei and Glenn as co-starters on the depth chart — the first time the team has done so this season.

Mike Norvell weighs in on FSU’s QB dilemma

During a press conference on Monday, head coach Mike Norvell addressed the Seminoles’ dilemma at QB.

“DJ is something we’re going to evaluate throughout the course of the week and see where it goes from there,” Norvell said. “In all reality, I said it after the game, after the interception… I decided I was gonna make the change. Obviously, DJ did have the injury there but we just wanted to see that opportunity for Brock to go in and have a chance to execute.

“Obviously, those guys both have to go and prepare at an elite level this week and we will see how things play out throughout the course of what this week holds.”

On Saturday, the Seminoles will face off against No. 15 Clemson at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPN.
