Dillon Gabriel heaps praise on Oregon offensive line after dominating Oregon State: ‘I can’t thank them enough’

Dillon Gabriel heaps praise on Oregon offensive line after dominating Oregon State: ‘I can’t thank them enough’

Oregon looked out of sorts in the first two weeks of the football season, despite picking up a pair of wins. But on Saturday in Corvallis, the Ducks rolled over in-state rivals Oregon State to a 49-14.

And much of the improvement, particularly on offense, stemmed from an improved performance from the starting offensive line. On Saturday: No sacks, no penalties and 240 rushing yards.

So in his postgame interview on FOX, Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel wasn’t shy in praising that group.

“Yeah I’m just proud of those guys,” Gabriel said. “I think, naturally, there’s a lot of things that were said and we took that personally. These are guys that pride themselves in the run game and then protecting me. I can’t thank them enough, the law firm and the freak shows, boys in the back, they’re just running at will.”

The “law firm” Gabriel referred too — alongside the “freak shows” playing at the two guard spots and center — are starting tackles Josh Conerly Jr. and Ajani Cornelius, hence the law firm of “Cornelius and Conerly.” Gabriel, along with not being sacked, also managed to be a big rushing threat, carrying four times for 64 yards and a touchdown. He also threw for 291 yards on a 20-of-24 passing line, plus two touchdowns.

The Oregon offense also looked fully in-sync with a number of transfers slotting in across the field.

“Yeah just confidence within game reps and I think they’ve done a great job of that and you see us, we don’t take negatives and we don’t put ourselves in down and distance that are tough and penalties, as well. I think you combine all that and you create positive plays and good things happen.

And Gabriel never had much doubt that this team would, eventually, get things figured out.

“I just think as you go throw adversity together you get closer and you see that today but also just being committed to the process. Although we weren’t getting the result we were wanting at the time, we just continued to build days and ultimately you come out and you dominate.”
