Diego Pavia arrived at Vanderbilt this season and made a strong impression in a Week 1 victory over Virginia Tech. But he made his presence felt on a national level Saturday as the Commodores pulled off a stunner, upsetting No. 1 Alabama in Nashville.

Pavia was emotional while speaking with SEC Network’s Alyssa Lang after the fans stormed the field. He also offered an NSFW response to defeating the top team in the country, which was fresh off a win over Georgia a week ago.

“It’s literally all God’s timing,” Pavia said. “Literally, from the jump. God gave me a vision when I was a little kid. And He don’t let back any promises. It’s God’s timeline. I’m super thankful. Super thankful for guys like Eli Stowers. Man, that kid’s are incredible. The rest of our team. I mean, look at this. Look at this. Vandy, we’re fucking turnt!”

Pavia had a monster game with both his arm and his legs. He completed 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns in the air while also adding 56 rushing yards on the ground as Alabama had trouble stopping the option.

Vanderbilt took a 23-10 lead into halftime, but Alabama rallied back to make it a one-score game late. The Commodores didn’t back down, and Pavia helped keep them steady en route to the upset of the season.

He discussed his mindset during those final minutes, and he said his goal is to keep his focus on the task at hand. That will again be the case after Saturday night with Kentucky looming next week.

“Shit, games like this change your life,” Pavia said. “It’s all about hype nowadays. I don’t like it like that. It’s a reality of NIL, all that stuff. Just stay grounded, be where my feet are every single day. Tomorrow, we’ve got to work on Kentucky.”
