David Pollack blasts Florida State while trailing Memphis

David Pollack blasts Florida State while trailing Memphis

David Pollack took to social media to deliver a shot at Florida State as the Seminoles trailed Memphis during their Week 3 clash on Saturday.

It’s been a rough afternoon for Mike Norvell’s squad, as they’ve certainly looked like the lesser squad against the Tigers. After the Seminoles trailed 13-3 at halftime, Pollack posted a cheeky comment on X, formerly known as Twitter, letting the world know what he truly thinks of Florida State.

“I am a postive person. Always try to be. I’m positive Florida State stinks,” the former ESPN analyst posted on X.

Perhaps Pollack is onto something. Shortly after he posted his tongue-in-cheek comment, the Seminoles gave up another touchdown, trailing 20-3 at the time of this story. Will they be able to come back? Possibly, but Florida State will have to play much better than they’ve shown thus far.

While analysts like Pollack have their hands on the panic button, his former colleague at ESPN in Paul Finebaum believes fans shouldn’t be so quick to write off this FSU squad and their head coach — at least, he did earlier this week. He attemped to ease the minds of ‘Noles faithful during a recent appearance on Greg McElroy’s show.

“I think the program is still in good hands overall,” Finebaum told McElroy. “But this game, to me, is a lot about Memphis. You and I both have been to Memphis recently, and this is the game that they have circled. This is the game that that Memphis can put the flag down and say, ‘Hey, we are now one of those Group of Five’s who deserve serious consideration, and with NIU winning, we tended to forget about Memphis a little bit, but I think it’s a winnable game.

“But I also believe Norvell is a superb coach, and even though we can all disagree about the playoffs last year, I think they’re fortunate to have him down there.”

Alas, Week 3 has been more of the same for the Seminoles. FSU hasn’t been able to establish an identity on offense under new quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, and the same goes for the defensive unit, who lost some of its staples to the NFL Draft this past April in Jared Verse and Braden Fiske.

ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, who was on the call for Florida State’s loss to Boston College in Week 2, said that veteran leadership is what the Seminoles have missed during the first two games of the season. Riddick called them “glue guys.” He said Uiagalelei has to find a way take over football games in the same way Jordan Travis did during his time in Tallahassee.

At the moment, Florida State is the butt of a lot of jokes within the college football world. Time will tell if they’re able to put together a comeback that they desperately need in the second half against Memphis in Week 3.
