Corey LaJoie ‘waiting on payback’ from Kyle Busch in wake of Watkins Glen crash

Corey LaJoie ‘waiting on payback’ from Kyle Busch in wake of Watkins Glen crash

Corey LaJoie and Kyle Busch have come together a couple times this season on the track, and Sunday at Watkins Glen was more of the same.

Busch was on the receiving end of a hook from LaJoie, sending him into the wall and helping ruin his day early. LaJoie knows he was at fault for the wreck, and he’s already anticipating retribution.

“So I wanted to give the 8 room there off the wall, didn’t want to crowd him,” Corey LaJoie said on his Stacking Pennies podcast. “And then I ended up coming into his left rear there, so there’s really no excuse for that. I was trying to… my only intention the first lap was to get singled out and not ruin anybody’s day and that’s the exact opposite of what happened.

“There’s a magnet for the 7 and the 8 car, unfortunately, and he’s had the short end of the stick. So I’m just waiting on payback.”

The two have had some earlier incidents on the track this season, too.

Corey LaJoie takes out Kyle Busch at Pocono

Though Kyle Busch kept to himself after being wrecked in a big one at Pocono, it was clear he wasn’t a huge fan of the Corey LaJoie contact that led to the incident.

He might have taken even worse to the commentary about the wreck.

Because if he wasn’t upset then, he’d certainly be a touch heated after hearing the radio chatter after yet another wreck that LaJoie was at fault for.

While Busch was reticent to comment on the cause of the big wreck, LaJoie and his team were not on their team radios. They were quick to absolve themselves of any fault.

“He hooked himself,” someone could be heard on Corey LaJoie’s radio, via Toby Christie.

“F*** him,” another team member said, “we ain’t worried about him. We’re worried about ourselves.”

Crew chief Ryan Sparks said that Busch got what he deserved. Busch had appeared to block LaJoie a few moments earlier in the race, perhaps what caused some bad blood between the two drivers and led to the contact.
