Conner Weigman injury update: Pete Thamel reveals status for Week 4

Conner Weigman injury update: Pete Thamel reveals status for Week 4

Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman continues to recover from a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, and is not likely to make a return this Saturday evening against Bowling Green, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

While Weigman suffered the injury and played through it in Week 2, he was kept out in Week 3, a road win for the Aggies where backup Marcel Reed got the start and looked sharp in a win over Florida. And in the same week that head coach Mike Elko said the quarterback position will be a week-to-week decision the rest of the year, Thamel isn’t confident that spells a return for Weigman under center.

“As for Conner Weigman, the will he, won’t he was the biggest story of last Saturday,” Thamel said on “College Football Live” on Friday. “He did not go against Florida. Marcel Reed stepped in, did a great job. Weigman’s dealing with an injury in his throwing shoulder. Mike Elko kind of said he’s going to be week-to-week for the rest of the season. It’s unlikely they are going to bring him back for the Bowling Green game on Saturday. So look for Weigman to get better and for Reed to have some more opportunity.”

Elko shared an update after Week 3 saying that Weigman got some imaging done and while it didn’t show much in terms of his recovery or healing, it did confirm he’s only dealing with an AC sprain and is unsure when his return might be.

“No updates on the plans for Saturday,” Elko said. “The imaging did turn out good. So, we didn’t find any more problems than we were dealing with. It’s an AC sprain. Everything else is very much intact.”

This is Weigman’s third season at Texas A&M. He was the starter in 2023 before an injury ended his season early and he ended up taking a redshirt. Now, looking to avoid missing an extended period of time due to this injury, Weigman is working his way back on the field.

“So, we’re just in the process now of recovery and rehab and trying to figure out where he can get himself to,” Elko said. “If he’s able to throw it around a little bit today, which is kind of how Wednesdays have gone, and we’ll kind of see what it’s like on the back end of the week as we make our decision for Saturday.”
