College Football Rankings: ESPN releases updated FPI Top 25 after Week 3
The latest college football rankings from ESPN are here as the network updated the FPI ratings within the top 25 teams.
Some teams moved up big time while others dropped despite wins and bye weeks. So this is an intriguing look following the first quarter of the regular season.
Let’s dive into ESPN’s updated FPI rankings after Week 3.
1. Texas
The Longhorns dominated once again, this time beating UTSA 56-7. This game wasn’t even a contest.
The bigger story was Quinn Ewers getting injured and Arch Manning filling in.
ESPN’s FPI looked kindly on Texas as Manning scored five total touchdowns in his first legit game action. Boy, it helps to have a former No. 1 overall recruit.
2. Alabama (+1)
Alabama didn’t take too much time to beat Wisconsin on Saturday. The Crimson Tide boat raced the Badgers in Madison, winning 42-10.
The FPI bumped them up one spot this week. Jalen Milroe accounted for five touchdowns, further establishing himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
3. Ohio State (+1)
Ohio State had the week off and the Buckeyes still moved up a spot. More on that in a little bit of course.
This team is 2-0 and will take on Marshall this coming weekend. Expect them to be a huge favorite and maybe move up the FPI a little more.

4. Tennessee (+1)
The Volunteers dominated Kent State 71-0. What else is surprising at this point? This is why the FPI bumped them up again.
In three games, Tennessee has scored 69, 51 and 71 points, respectively. Oh yeah, the Volunteers only allowed 13 points in three games. Insane.
5. Georgia (-3)
The Bulldogs fell three spots in the FPI this weekend due to a close call against Kentucky. Georgia went into Lexington, expecting to roll over the Wildcats.
Nope, Georgia eked out a 13-12 win on the road its first SEC action of the season. The Bulldogs actually trailed 9-3 midway through the third quarter. Erase this one from the memory bank.
6. Ole Miss
The Rebels stood pat this week, per the FPI. But still, Lane Kiffin’s team is a bonafide top 10 squad in the country.
Ole Miss went to Wake Forest Saturday and ran past the Demon Deacons. A 40-6 win was the least surprising result right? Ole Miss has only allowed nine points this year while scoring 168.
7. Notre Dame (+3)
This is what Notre Dame needed to bounce back after the upset loss to Northern Illinois at home. The Fighting Irish moved up three spots in the FPI after dismantling Purdue 66-7.
That is a stark contrast from the last two weeks when it comes to the Notre Dame offense. Riley Leonard threw for 112 yards but it was Steve Angeli who tossed two touchdowns. However, Leonard ran for 100 yards and three scores as Notre Dame racked up 364 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
8. Miami (+4)
Miami continued its non-conference dominance with a 62-0 win over Ball State. Again, next topic here.
The FPI bumped the Hurricanes up four spots for the effort. Next up, Miami heads to South Florida. No, the school, we know Miami is about as south as you can get.
9. Penn State (-2)
Penn State dropped two spots in the FPI rankings this week, but the Nittany Lions were off this week. They’ll get a reeling Kent State squad at home next Saturday.
Big Ten play will be the big test for Penn State, starting with Illinois and UCLA before hitting the road at USC. A better evaluation should come in a few weeks.
10. Missouri (-1)
Missouri dropped a tiny bit in the FPI, but don’t fret Tiger fans. Eli Drinkwitz and company pulled out a great win against Boston College, 27-21.
It’s a ranked win per the AP Poll and now Mizzou will host Vanderbilt to begin SEC play. Let’s see how high this team climbs.
