Catching up with On To Victory’s Brett Whiteside: Raising $1 mil. by December, hoops and football recruiting efforts

Catching up with On To Victory’s Brett Whiteside: Raising mil. by December, hoops and football recruiting efforts

Auburn Live caught up with On To Victory‘s Executive Director Brett Whiteside on Friday to talk about the collective’s campaign to raise $1 million before December 20 of this year, as well chat about the general health of the collective, efforts in football and men’s basketball recruiting and more.

Brief thoughts from the interview, things to know

— OTV has around 3,400 active members. There are estimated to be around 250,000 living alumni and north of 900,000 “Auburn fans”, so there’s plenty of work to be done.

— The collective is currently deploying a campaign to raise $1 million before the end of the year. The collective will match funds, as donations come through. It’s a dollar-for-dollar match, as new donations come in. Current members who upgrade their membership, the collective will go 3:1 in terms of matching your donation.

— Whiteside says OTV will be around “for at least” the next 12 months. Revenue sharing and court cases will dictate how long specific collectives last, but there will always be a need for monetary support towards NIL for student-athletes.

— There is no “cap” on how much student-athletes can earn at this moment. It’s a “free market.” We are in a time of uncertainty, but for now, OTV is involved and has contracts with current student-athletes.

— Hugh Freeze and Co. are doing a “phenomenal” job of recruiting, according to Whiteside.

— Former Auburn QB and OTV employee Jason Campbell has done an excellent job of communicating OTV’s abilities to prospective student-athletes after it was permitted that collectives can speak to prospect recruits.

— Whiteside reminds fans that they can donate and “earmark” their donation for a specific sport. That has been done for numerous different sports’ teams at Auburn already.

— Basketball is facing a big rebuild after this season and faces “a lot of needs” after this season, with potentially 10 players off the current roster moving on at season’s end.
