Caleb Wilson meets Masai Russell (and her Olympic gold medal) on official visit to Kentucky

Caleb Wilson meets Masai Russell (and her Olympic gold medal) on official visit to Kentucky

Mark Pope hosted a very important visitor in Lexington this weekend as 2025 five-star forward Caleb Wilson made his way to Kentucky for his official. It marked the first top-five recruit on campus for the Wildcats since the coaching change, a chance for the new staff to prove it can continue bringing in the best of the best — ideally without the help of local ties.

How did things go with the 6-9 forward out of Atlanta? Judging by his post-visit photos, they went pretty darn well. And he looks like he belongs in blue and white.

Wilson tried on what could be his future No. 2 jersey inside the locker room while also hanging out with the 1996 national championship trophy and modeling some retro Kentucky gear, including some slick denim shorts with the old logo.

The coolest part? Kentucky’s very first official visit hype video, Wilson rocking the blue and white alongside top memories in program history.

“The nation of blue and white,” Wilson wrote on Instagram after wrapping things up in Lexington.

Can the Wildcats pull off the commitment for the No. 4 overall prospect and No. 2 power forward in the senior class? They got some help from a few unlikely sources, namely Olympic gold medalist Masai Russell, who was in attendance for the Kentucky football game vs. Georgia on Saturday.

Wilson posed for a picture with the former UK track and field superstar a little over a month following her impressive debut in Paris where she brought home gold. And Russell made sure to show off her hardware.

Elsewhere, four-star guard Acaden Lewis made it clear he wants to play with Wilson in college, and the feeling is mutual.

“Come on over bro,” Wilson told Lewis in response to his list cut down to four schools on Saturday — one that included Kentucky.

“I wanna play (with) this guy,” Lewis responded to Wilson on his Instagram post.

Malachi Moreno, Andrew Carr, Travis Perry and Trent Noah were among the other players lighting up Wilson in the comments, making sure the five-star forward felt the love leaving his trip to Lexington.

Now it’s time to see if the coaching staff can close in the coming months.
