On Sunday, Jordan Love made his return to the gridiron after missing back-to-back weeks due to an MCL strain he suffered in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Before the game, Love honored former Packers QB Brett Favre by wearing his jersey.

During a Congressional hearing on wasteful welfare spending this past week, Favre revealed he was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. On Sunday, Favre thanked Love for the kind gesture.

“Big respect to [Jordan Love] for wearing this old man’s jersey,” Favre said. “I didn’t think I could like Jordan anymore until this morning.”

It was an up-and-down performance for Love in his first game back since Sept. 6. He completed 32-of-his-54 (59.3%) pass attempts for 389 yards and four touchdowns but threw three interceptions in the process.

It was a comeback effort for the Packers, who trailed the Vikings by 21 points entering the fourth quarter. Alas, after scoring a touchdown with 56 seconds left in the game, the Packers were unable to recover their onside kick and the Vikings escaped with the win.

After the game, Favre offered words of encouragement to Love.

“Dear Jordan: Just a reminder that one game, one play, or one pass doesn’t define you,” Favre wrote. “Way to show resilience today. You have a long career ahead. Just keep going forward.”

Favre has been retired from the NFL since 2010, his final season with the Minnesota Vikings. Last week, Favre faced the House Ways and Means Committee in a hearing.

The hearing focused on the need for “guardrails” when it comes to dispersing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds, about which $8 million went to Favre himself, a volleyball stadium at his alma mater, and a drug company he backed, per AJ Perez of Front Office Sports.

“According to his prepared testimony, obtained by Front Office Sports, Favre plans to reveal his diagnosis when he mentions Prevacus, the now defunct drug company that received about $2 million and counted Favre as its largest individual investor,” Perez wrote.
