BREAKING: Miami Hurricanes 4-star 2026 WR commit Malachi Toney reclassifies to 2025

BREAKING: Miami Hurricanes 4-star 2026 WR commit Malachi Toney reclassifies to 2025

Miami four-star 2026 receiver commit Malachi Toney, the No. 240 overall prospect and No. 38 receiver in the On3 Industry Ranking from Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage, has reclassified to the 2025 recruiting class, he confirmed to CaneSport Tuesday morning.

Toney’s reclassification from the 2026 recruiting cycle to the 2025 cycle comes as Miami continues its pursuit of elite receivers in this year’s recruiting class. Toney suddenly and surprisingly committed to Miami more than a year ago and has remained solid with the Hurricanes, although programs including Florida State and Alabama have continued to work to flip the blue-chip prospect. Toney attended Miami’s home opener against Florida A&M and plans to return to Hard Rock Stadium again at some point this fall although has not locked in hard dates.

“(Receivers coach) Kevin Beard told me that’s what they were going to do, so that’s what I expected them to do,” Toney said after Miami’s win against Florida A&M. “He tells me what they do day in and day out, so that wasn’t a surprise.”

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound receiver has long been one of Miami’s top priorities in the 2026 cycle and has maintained a strong relationship with Beard and head coach Mario Cristobal, which’s he’s consistently cited as a major reason why he’s remained committed to Miami. Toney will likely sign in December but would be expected to enroll in summer 2025.

Toney’s reclassification gives Miami two On3 Industry four-star receiver commits in the 2025 class between Toney and Daylyn Upshaw, although Toney’s ranking will likely be subject to change after jumping ahead a full recruiting cycle. It also gives Miami 22 total commits in the 2025 cycle and the Hurricanes’ No. 13 recruiting class nationally.

Miami is continuing to work to land its third-straight top-10 recruiting class under Cristobal and second-straight top-five class.
