BREAKING: 4-star SF, NBA legacy Jermaine O’Neal, Jr. commits to SMU, Andy Enfield
The SMU Mustangs landed a major commitment as four-star Dallas (Tex.) Dynamic Prep standout Jermaine O’Neal, Jr. committed to Andy Enfield & Co. on Wednesday.
The Mustangs beat out the likes of Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt and others for O’Neal, the son of former NBA All-Star Jermaine O’Neal. Jermaine, Sr. is now the head coach of Dynamic Prep, a basketball powerhouse in the Dallas area.
Enfield and his staff did a terrific job recruiting the 6-5 prospect, getting him on campus multiple times over the past few months. He was re-offered by SMU on his visit early in the summer, but it was his official visit in early September that sealed the deal for him.
“The visit went great,” O’Neal told On3. “I love the coaching staff and how they appreciate me for me. I love the school and everything they’re building there especially since they’re now in the ACC. So in all it was a very good visit.”
The four-star ranks as the No. 99 overall prospect and No. 23 small forward nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
O’Neal is close with other SMU targets like four-star prospects Jaden Toombs and Jerry Easter, who are set to officially visit later this weekend.
O’Neal is the first high school pledge for the SMU Basketball program since Enfield arrived from USC. Enfield and his staff rebuilt the roster for SMU’s first season in ACC play, which begins in the 2024-25 season.
