Braelon Allen reacts to Chez Mellusi absence, shares ‘strong feelings’ on how players are treated

Last week, Braelon Allen said he hopes for a chance to go on a podcast and talk about his final year at Wisconsin. After news broke of Chez Mellusi’s absence from the program, an X user asked when it would happen, and Allen said he had “strong thoughts” on how players are treated.

Allen reacted to a post about Mellusi’s decision, sharing a thumbs-down emoji. A user then asked when he would be “trashing Wisconsin” on a podcast, and Allen – now with the New York Jets – expressed his love for his alma mater.

However, he said his initial comment was about his final year in Madison, which was the first year of the Luke Fickell era. Allen cited a lack of accountability as an issue he saw in 2023.

“I ain’t tryna trash anybody,” Allen said with a laughing emoji. “I love Wisconsin and everything about it. But I also have strong feelings about the way things were done and how people were treated and how nobody needed to be held accountable besides the players.”

Mellusi was Allen’s primary backup at Wisconsin last season and was expected to take over the top running back role this year. Through four games, he has 232 rushing yards – 74 away from last year’s total – but is now planning to step away from the program for the time being.

A source told On3 that Mellusi had not made a final decision as of Thursday night and he met with Fickell multiple times. So, there is an avenue for the running back to return at some point during the 2024 season. However, if he does not suit up for Wisconsin again, it’s more likely Mellusi steps away from football than enter the transfer portal.

The news comes after Wisconsin saw a sizable lead disappear against USC last week en route to a 38-21 loss. Afterward, Braelon Allen hinted at his strong thoughts about the end of his college career and wanted to go on a podcast to talk about them.

“I’m gonna hold my tongue for now, but y’all gonna see me on a podcast one day explaining exactly what was going on my last season there,” Allen said. Well, that should certainly be an interesting listen. With podcasts nowadays, there is very little left to the imagination.”
