Boston College vs. Michigan State odds: Early point spread released, how to watch

Boston College vs. Michigan State odds: Early point spread released, how to watch

It’s been a solid start to the season thus far for Michigan State, and the Spartans will hope that continues in Week 4 against Boston College. They’re off to a 3-0 start following a 40-0 victory against Prairie View A&M on Saturday, but this is where things will be a lot tougher.

Assuming the Eagles stay in the AP poll following a 27-21 loss against No. 6 Missouri in Week 3, they will be the first of three straight ranked opponents Michigan State faces in its upcoming games.

Michigan State is only one win away from tying its total from last season. It was a tumultuous year that saw the Spartans fire coach Mel Tucker only to games into the year after he was accused of sexual harassment. After beginning the year 2-0, they never could recover from the scandal under interim coach Harlon Barnett.

MSU hired Jonathan Smith from Oregon State this offseason and it’s safe to say it’s so far been a good fit. Led by a defense giving up just 11.3 points per game early on this year, they already appear much-improved.

However, they’ll run into a Boston College team that has been equally impressive under a first-year coach of their own in Bill O’Brien. The Eagles showed their toughness this past week by taking a top 10 team down to the wire.

Quarterback Thomas Castellanos threw for a season-high 249 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. He also has dual-threat ability and will be someone the Spartans will need to figure out how to slow down if they hope to win.
