Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson received some good news when it comes to the injury he suffered on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Richardson is considered day-to-day with oblique and abdominal stains. This means he has a chance to play on Sunday when the Colts take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“There’s always those things out there: Injury-prone, guys get hurt,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star. “It’s football. Guys go out and play, injuries happen sometimes. You don’t want them to happen. Obviously, it happened. Obviously, it wasn’t a huge, huge injury. We’ll see how the week progresses and go from there.”

Anthony Richardson suffered the injury after sustaining a hit on a 14-yard run in the first quarter. He was on the sidelines for two plays before returning to the field. But after taking another hit on a run, Richardson left the field and was out for the rest of the game. Joe Flacco took over and helped the Colts beat the Steelers 27-24.

“My hip was hurting,” Richardson said after the game, per ESPN. “I tried to go back out there, but I just couldn’t accelerate how I wanted to. So, [Steichen] was like trying not to mess up the team right now, so I was like, ‘I’ll just sit.’”

He added, “I was looking forward to going back out there with my squad. I wanted to contribute to the W. I think I did a little bit, but I wanted to be out there the whole time. But shoutout to my guys for getting the W today.”

This isn’t the first injury Richardson has dealt with in his young NFL career. During his rookie season in 2023, he missed the majority of the year due to a shoulder injury. Richardson knows that he will receive criticism about his durability, but the conversations don’t bother him.

“People are going to talk about injuries, people are going to say injury-prone, blah, blah, blah,” he said. “But nobody wants to get injured. Everybody wants to stay on the field. Of course, I was like, ‘Man, damn, not again.’ But it’s all good. It’s God’s plan and I’m trusting it.”
