Anthony Richardson injury: Colts QB shares definitive update on hip

Anthony Richardson injury: Colts QB shares definitive update on hip

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson gave an update on his hip injury after the team’s 27-24 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Richardson told reporters that his hip was “still sore” but then told Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network that he would be fine. He then said he told Colts head coach Shane Steichen he could return after the initial hip injury but “tried to accelerate and couldn’t push off like I wanted to.”

The injury happened in the second quarter when Richardson took a hit to his right hip area after a 14-yard run. After missing two plays, the former Florida Gators QB returned only to leave again when he took a hard hit from Steelers linebacker Minkah Fitzpatrick late in the first quarter. Richardson tried to return to the game but was ruled out earlier in the second quarter. Joe Flacco took over for Richardson and finished the day by completing in 16 of 26 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns.

Injuries have been an issue for Richardson in the early stages of his career. During his rookie season, the former first-round pick sustained a concussion that kept him out of the Week 3 game before suffering a season-ending should injury. Entering Sunday’s game, Richardson has completed 49.3 percent of his passes for 583 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions through three games.

Why Shane Steichen believes in Anthony Richardson

Before the Steelers game, Steichen explained to reporters why they aren’t worried about Richardson’s completion percentage. “It’s a long season, and we’re only three games into this thing,” he said, per the Colts’ official website. “You continue to grow every single week. Feed the confidence, feed the positive every single day. Go out and have great practices, great meetings and then you go perform on Sundays.”

Steichen also explained why he has a lot of faith in Richardson. “Because of the person he is, the way he works,” Steichen explained. “He comes in every day, he’s ready to roll. He puts a lot into it. A lot of people don’t see the work, right? It’s all done in the dark, in here. And then at some point, you keep working, keep working, and that stuff comes to light for everyone to see.”
