Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones suggests Deion Sanders would take Florida State head coach job

Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones suggests Deion Sanders would take Florida State head coach job

It’s a move that’s long been theorized, but is yet to be consummated —and as far as anyone is aware, it has not really been a serious consideration. But plenty of people would certainly be fascinated to see Deion Sanders coaching at his alma mater, Florida State.

After what was generally viewed as a successful two years leading the Jackson State football program, Sanders parlayed that into his current job coaching Colorado. But one of the all-time Seminole greats on the field could be a potential candidate to wear the headset in garnet and gold.

That is, at least, what former NFL corner Adam “Pacman” Jones seems to think could or should happen. While he doesn’t have any specific insight into Sanders’ future, Jones speculated on the possibilities on his podcast, presented via BetOnline_ag.

“He fit Florida State,” Jones said. “My opinion, he would have picked Florida State over Colorado, but Florida State f*cked that up.”

What Sanders does after the 2024 season will likely be telling about his intentions for his coaching future. Both his sons — Shedeur and Shilo Sanders — are likely to be gone, Shedeur almost certainly to the NFL, as will star two-way player Travis Hunter. With that exodus, many have wondered if Sanders is committed to coaching when his sons are no longer playing in college, as he has roundly rejected any notion of desiring to coach in the NFL.

Barring an utter collapse and/or off the field issues arising at Colorado, Sanders will get a third season at Colorado if he wishes it.

And despite Florida State starting the season in about as putrid a fashion as possible, Mike Norvell’s job security is still likely pretty stable coming off an undefeated 2023 regular season.

But only time will tell what the desires of one “Coach Prime” are, ultimately, for his career on the sideline.

Sanders spoke about Hunter’s two-way ability at the next level

Sanders is quite sure Hunter can play wide receiver and cornerback in the NFL as he does at Colorado.

He cited the ability to stay in phenomenal cardiovascular shape based on the faster tempo of the college game. If the game slows down, literally, at the pro level, Hunter can go both ways, per Sanders.

A Heisman candidate and potential top 10 NFL Draft pick, Hunter remains an intriguing prospect.

“Yes, because a lot of teams are tempo, so he don’t get a lot of rest,” Sanders said, praising Hunter’s ability. “And just think about this. I just got finished talking to scouts about this, about what he can and cannot do. Pros go to huddle. So he’s even getting more time to rest. So most teams you play, they run some type of a tempo or the transition is much greater than pros from snap to snap.

“So with him getting that amount of rest, he cannot help but be a great pro. Practices are limited. There’s barely no contact. You can’t even hit a receiver downfield in the NFL no more. So I think he’s a great compliment to that game, and he could continue to do what he’s doing now.”
