A look at Elon Musk’s love of juvenile humor: from jokes about 420 and 69 to ‘Titter’
- Elon Musk has joked his birthday is exactly 69 days after 4/20. He turned 53 in June.
- It’s rare that the billionaire goes a day or two without cracking some kind of joke.
- Here are some examples of Musk’s middle-school humor — from 420 jokes to marketing gag merchandise.
Elon Musk has made a name for himself as the richest person in the world — but he’s also turned heads with his bold claims and tendency to inject childish humor into serious situations.
From constantly posting memes on X to creating gag products, it’s rare that the 53-year-old goes a day without cracking some kind of joke. In 2022, Musk called humor “one of the great joys of life.”
Humor has been a pillar for Musk and it’s evident in everything he does, from his AI chatbot Grok to his gag Tesla products and his frequent witty remarks on X. The Tesla CEO uses humor so often that it can be difficult to tell if he’s joking, like when he challenged Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg for a cage fight on his social media platform X.
It’s pretty rare for a CEO of multiple companies to make sexual references in product names and make jabs at other CEOs and politicians — and Musk’s jokes have been known to ruffle feathers.
Experts previously told Business Insider that Musk’s online antics — from jokes about masturbation and Hitler to starting feuds on Twitter — could be harmful to his companies.
“When you have a CEO who is making those types of comments, it can be very off-putting,” Nicole Stgerman, the Lead Outreach and Education Coordinator at Equal Employment Opportunity Commission told Insider in 2022. “There’s a reason you don’t see other executives saying these kinds of things. The CEO both creates and represents the culture of his company.”
In the past, some of Musk’s comments have landed him in hot water with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and have been cited in several employee lawsuits against Tesla.
Here’s a closer look at some of the jokes the CEO has made.
Musk, SpaceX, and Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.
