4-star WR Malachi Toney decommits from Miami

4-star WR Malachi Toney decommits from Miami

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star wide receiver Malachi Toney has decommitted from Miami, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

He was pledged to the Hurricanes since Aug. 22, 2023, when he chose the in-state program as a 2026 prospect. Last month, he reclassified to the 2025 cycle.

Toney is the No. 309 overall prospect and No. 50 WR in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 44 player in Florida.

The 5-foot-9 wideout is coming off a visit to Alabama, where he took in the Crimson Tide’s big win over Georgia at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The loss of Toney’s pledge brings Miami back to 21 total commitments in its 2025 class.

Toney has been a varsity player during each of his three years of high school, totaling 122 catches for 1,979 yards and 24 touchdowns in his career.

Miami loses in-state blue-chipper

With Toney no longer in the mix in Coral Gables, Miami now has just one wide receiver commit in its current class: Phenix City (Ala.) Central three-star Daylyn Upshaw. The Canes’ class ranks No. 12 in the nation and No. 1 in the ACC, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

The class is headlined by seven top-200 prospects — a majority of which have joined the class since the beginning of July. Four-star safety Hylton Stubbs, four-star interior offensive lineman SJ Alofaituli and four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine each pledged in July within a 15-day span and are the three highest-ranked commits in the fold for Mario Cristobal and Co.

Stubbs is the No. 53 overall prospect in the nation, while Alofaituli checks in at No. 81. Both are top-five players at their position.

Miami four-star safety Bryce Fitzgerald is the latest big name to join the fold, as he committed on Aug. 17. Also flanking him near the top of the class includes four-star linebacker Gavin Nix, four-star running back Girard Pringle, four-star tight end Brock Schott, four-star CB Chris Ewald and four-star quarterback Luke Nickel.
