Chance Mallory, one of the top point guards in the country, has decided to stay home and commit to Virginia, he told On3.

The 5-foot-9 four-star senior out of Charlottesville (VA) St Anne’s-Belfield School chose Tony Bennett and the Cavaliers over Virginia Tech, but he also received offers from Tennessee, Miami, Clemson, Villanova, and more.

Mallory is the No. 53 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 10 point guard prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3’s evaluators are slightly higher on Mallory, ranking him No. 48 in the 2025 class.

Mallory on his commitment to Virginia

Chance Mallory discussed his decision to choose UVA with On3.

“I chose UVA because of the connections and relationships that I have built with the coaches. Coach Bennett made it clear that he sees me being a possible early contributor as a leader and a guard on the team.”

What led to his trust in the coaching staff?

“I have known them for my whole life basically so the trust with them has always been there. And they also made it clear to me that they have trust in me as well.”

In his own words, what type of player is Virginia getting in Chance Mallory?

“I would describe my game as a fast-paced guard that like to penetrate defenses and create open shots for my teammates while also being able to shoot and score the ball at a high level.”

He has a message for UVA fans.

“I’m just excited to have the opportunity to stay home and to be able to play the game I love in front of the city that I love.”

“This year Chance Mallory averaged 26.0 points on 51 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three. The 5-foot-9 point guard opened eyes with his tough-minded play, ability to score in traffic, and his deep, deep three-point shooting range. Mallory has a shifty handle with excellent balance and body control. He also pulls gravity once he crosses half-court, pulling the defense out because of his threat to knock down shots from the hash mark. This summer with Team Thrill on the UAA Next Circuit, Mallory averaged 20.4 points while shooting 36.2 percent from three and 83.7 percent from the free-throw line. “Each time that Chance Mallory took the court he made plays. The compactly built lead guard plays with the utmost confidence on each possession. He has a strong handle that gets him to his spots and the 5-foot-10 Mallory carries range that extends out to 35-plus feet. In the games I watched during this event, Mallory displayed an understanding of when to score and when to distribute. Good things seemed to happen when he had the ball in his hands and initiated the offense. Mallory is also a uniquely good rebounder for his position.”
