2026 4-star WR, Miami commit Malachi Toney reclassifies to 2025

2026 4-star WR, Miami commit Malachi Toney reclassifies to 2025

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star 2026 wide receiver Malachi Toney will reclassify to the Class of 2025, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Toney is the No. 240 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 45 wide receiver and No. 38 recruit in Florida.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder committed to the Hurricanes in August 2023 over Ohio State, Florida State, Auburn and a number of others.

Toney has been a varsity player during each of his three years of high school, totaling 109 catches for 1,785 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career.

He joins a Miami class that currently ranks No. 13 nationally and No. 2 in the ACC in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. He’s also the sixth Miami-area prospect in the ‘Canes 2025 class, joining defensive lineman Donta Simpson, linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin, safety Amari Wallace, cornerback Chris Ewald and safety Bryce Fitzgerald.

Toney is impressed by Miami’s early start to the season

The Hurricanes are off to a 3-0 start and back inside the top 10 of the national polls for the first time in a few years. And they’ve been doing in led by a scorching-hot offense and great play from their receivers. That’s something Toney very much likes to see.

“[Receivers coach] Kevin Beard told me that’s what they were going to do, so that’s what I expected them to do,” Toney told CaneSport. “He tells me what they do day in and day out, so that really wasn’t a surprise.”

He was in attendance for Miami’s 56-9 romp over Florida A&M and came away impressed by what they did to the Rattlers.

“It was a great game,” Toney told CaneSport. “They came out a bit slow in the first half, but they did their thing in the second half, and it was how it was supposed to be. A blowout.”

Toney himself is off to a strong start in 2024, pulling in 25 receptions for 391 yards and seven touchdowns in four games.
