2026 4-star QB Oscar Rios decommits from Purdue

2026 4-star QB Oscar Rios decommits from Purdue

Downey (Calif.) four-star 2026 quarterback Oscar Rios has decommitted from Purdue, he announced on Wednesday night.

Rios had been committed to the Boilermakers since June, when he chose them over offers from Nebraska, UNLV, Cal, Arizona State and others.

His decommitment comes just days after Purdue head coach Ryan Walters fired offensive coordinator Graham Harrell just four games into the 2024 season.

“First and for most I want to thank God for putting me in this position in my life,” he wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank everyone that has helped and been by my side since day one. I want to thank The Purdue Family and the amazing coaches. Coach Walters, Coach CP, Coach Keane and more. I also want to thank my guy Coach Harrell for believing in me. I will be De-Committing From Purdue University. My Recruitment is Officially Open.”

Rios is the second decommitment this week for the Boilermakers, who lost 2025 three-star wide receiver LeBron Hill after Harrell’s departure as well.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Rios is the No. 306 overall prospect and No. 20 in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3, however, is much higher on him than the other three services. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 176 recruit and No. 11 passer.

Through two and a half seasons of high school football, Rios is completing better than 65 percent of his passes while throwing for more than 4,800 yards, 43 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
