Troy Stellato injury update: Dabo Swinney shares encouraging update on Clemson WR

The Clemson Tigers got a scare in practice leading up to the game against Stanford when wide receiver Troy Stellato went down with an injury. At the time, there was concern from head coach Dabo Swinney that it would be a severe injury.

Luckily, that isn’t the case, and as Swinney shared in an encouraging update following the Stanford game, Stellato’s injury is best case scenario and he’ll be day-to-day moving forward.

“Stellato got hurt on Tuesday or Wednesday,” Dabo Swinney said. “I can’t remember what day it was, Tuesday or Wednesday, and we thought it was really bad. But, man, we got best case news. I’m really happy for him.”

Troy Stellato came to Clemson as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Since getting to college, he has also battled some injury issues in his career. That includes a torn ACL that cost him his 2022 season. He was also dealing with a finger injury as recently as last Spring that required surgery.

When he has been able to find the field, Dabo Swinney has used Troy Stellato as a rotational wide receiver. He has 44 career receptions in games across three different seasons for 397 yards and a touchdown for his college career. This season, he has four receptions for 61 yards in two of Clemson’s four games.

“So, he’s day-to-day…And I’m thankful because he was close to not being day-to-day. He was going to be out for a while. So, I’m really happy for Troy because he’s been through a lot, man,” Swinney said. “Like I said, it was kind of best-case news for him. What he’s dealing with, he’ll be all right. He’ll be alright. He’ll heal up.”

This comes at a time when depth has become an issue for Clemson at wide receiver. Adam Randall, Tyler Brown, and Bryant Wesco have already missed time due to injuries. Meanwhile, Antonio Williams also left Clemson’s game against Stanford with an injury. He also appears to be day-to-day moving forward.

Despite those injuries, the Clemson offense took care of business against Stanford and won 40-14. That was Clemson’s third straight game scoring at least 40 points this season and has helped to add some style points on top of the team’s success. That’s something the Tigers would like to keep going next week as they get ready to take on the Florida State Seminoles.
