NC State trending for On300 4-star OT Takhyian Whitset
On Wednesday, Nashville Antioch four-star offensive tackle Takhyian Whitset backed off his commitment to Purdue. That decision came right after he logged an official visit to NC State.
Now, the Wolfpack are trending to land his pledge, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. On Friday morning, NC State recruiting insider Ethan McDowell logged a pick in favor of the ACC program picking up what would be a big blue-chip commitment.
“I’d say they exceeded everything that I thought it was going to be,” Whitset told The Wolfpacker after his OV. “I really like it up there.”
The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder would be a major addition to the Wolfpack’s 2025 class — which currently ranks just No. 50 in the nation and No. 12 in the ACC, per the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Offensive line coach Garett Tujague is leading NC State’s charge for Whitset.
“I like that he’s a straight-up person,” Whitset said. “We were in the film room, and he’s in there correcting things that I could have been doing better. I haven’t had really a coach that did that so far, so that’s pretty cool.”
Whitset is a major outlier in the 2025 On300, ranking as the nation’s No. 238 overall prospect, No. 20 IOL and No. 8 player in Tennessee. He checks in at No. 672 overall in the cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Dave Doeren’s 2025 class currently features 16 commitments and ranks No. 50 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Marshville (N.C.) Forest Hills four-star wide receiver Jerel Bolder is the lone blue-chipper in the class, checking in as a top-300 recruit and top-10 player in North Carolina.
“As soon as I got to NC State and walked in, I felt it,” Bolder told On3 upon making his decision public. “I liked Georgia and Virginia a lot too, but the players at NC State took me in like a brother, the coaches always made me feel like a priority and NC State feels like home.”
The class currently features commitments from three offensive linemen: Louisville Male three-star IOL Isaac Sowells Jr., Wilmington (N.C.) Hoggard three-star IOL Michael Gibbs and Kings Mills (Ohio) three-star IOL Kage Payne.
Other top commits in the class include: Columbus Westland three-star running back Kentrell Rinehart, Pittsboro (N.C.) Northwood three-star tight end Gus Ritchey, Anderson (S.C.) TL Hanna three-star cornerback Cam Strong and Lake Worth (Fla.) Santaluces three-star WR Jamar Browder.
