FSU enters the picture with Gators commit Tae’shaun Gelsey

FSU enters the picture with Gators commit Tae’shaun Gelsey

On Thursday, the day Florida Sate saw receiver commit Daylan McCutcheon flip to Texas, the Seminoles offered another one. That player is 4-star prospect Tae’shaun Gelsey, a Florida Gators pledge.

“It meant a lot,” Gelsey told Gators Online. “They are a great program with a lot of eyes (on them) and play great competition. I talk to (receivers coach Ron) Dugans the most and I’ve been talking to him for a minute now.”

Tae’shaun Gelsey is having a huge season

New offers to Gelsey were to be expected. He has 41 catches for 611 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season. Gelsey committed to the Gators over Tulane on June 29. At the time, Florida had him projected as a tight end/athlete. Tulane recruited him to play receiver.

According to the latest intel, the Gators now view Gelsey as a receiver-hybrid type. FSU has offered him a receiver.

“(The Seminoles’ message to him is) that they have had receivers bigger than me and they feel like I’ve been looking more explosive and I can play wide receiver,” Gelsey said.

Gelsey, listed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, is the No. 33 prospect in the state of Florida for On3. Until this week, the Gators had three other receiver types committed, but Joshua Moore, who also is 6-foot-4, flipped to Miami. Gesley is now the tallest of the group committed by nearly three inches, with 6-foot-1 receiver Naeshaun Montgomery next, followed by 5-foot-10.5 Vernell Brown III.

Florida is 3-2 but there remains uncertainty about coach Billy Napier’s future in Gainesville. Meanwhile, FSU is only 1-5 and statistically has one of the worst offenses in the country. What kind of shot might the ‘Noles have with Gelsey — and will he visit them this season?

“I don’t know yet — I don’t have an answer as of right now,” Gelsey said.

For now, Gelsey is saying all the right things about the Gators. And, he has been a regular visitor in Gainesville this year.

“I’m still solid and locked in with Florida right now,” Gelsey said.
