It was a chaotic finish in Boulder, with fans storming the field to celebrate Colorado‘s win against Baylor amid a review before leaving the field and storming again once the review ended the game. That prompted head coach Deion Sanders to apologize to Dave Aranda of Baylor.

Sanders explained in his postgame press conference that he had wanted to shake Aranda’s hand but the field storming made it impossible. So, he regrets that not happening.

“I want to apologize to the opposition,” Deion Sanders said. “The way we stormed the field, I didn’t get the opportunity to shake the head coach’s hand, but I did try to go over to the locker room and wait it out until he came out, but I don’t think they got the word to him because that’s not professional. I wanted to shake his hand and acknowledge.”

The game itself looked like Baylor had all but won before quarterback Shedeur Sanders connected on a Hail Mary to force overtime. Once in overtime, Travis Hunter managed to force a fumble that went out the back of the endzone and secure the win.

The win was Colorado’s first as a Big 12 school after rejoining the conference starting this season. For many fans of the Colorado program, that context only added to the emotion of the win.

“I don’t like what transpired at the end of the game, but I love what transpired at the end of the game. We have a fan base that’s phenomenal,” Sanders said. “We have some young kids on this campus that love and breathe CU football. I’m thankful. I walk campus every day and they give us so much love and respect and honor.”

For Colorado, the win moved the Buffaloes to 3-1 on the season, just one win shy of last season’s total. Baylor, meanwhile, dropped to 2-2 with signs of improvement from 2023 but also walked away with a frustrating loss.

Paul Finebaum: Colorado ‘the most exciting thing on television’ after Hail Mary, OT win over Baylor

On the Sunday following Colorado’s win over Baylor, analyst Paul Finebaum praised the Buffaloes for their incredibly exciting win.

“We’re not talking about a football team. We’re talking about a legitimate reality show. Move over ‘Golden Bachelor.’ I mean, this is the most exciting thing on television right now. And by the way, it’s been that way since Coach Prime got there. But I don’t think in all the dramatics we’ve seen anything quite like the scene last night,” Finebaum said.

“I mean, this was made for Hollywood. It’s hard even to believe. I mean, the percentage of making this, of Colorado winning the game, was under 1% on the final play, and they still managed to do it. But then again, Coach Prime is in charge.”

Next, Deion Sanders and Colorado will continue Big 12 play with a road test against the UCF Knights.
