South Carolina Football: National analyst labels Williams-Brice Stadium as “Top 5”

South Carolina Football: National analyst labels Williams-Brice Stadium as “Top 5”

Under the lights of Williams-Brice Stadium this Saturday, Shane Beamer’s South Carolina football team showed the college football world a few things. On the field, the Gamecocks won big, 44-20, after Debo Williams and company delivered a donut in the 2nd half. The environment in the stadium also had the country talking.

Everyone who knows anything about college football understands that Williams-Brice Stadium is a great venue. However, after Saturday’s game, some national opinions have begun mirroring local thought.

On3’s Jesse Simonton sang Willy B’s praises. Speaking about Gamecock fans, the national pundit argued that South Carolina has a top-15 environment on a normal Saturday. However, he amended that statement by saying that night games in Williams-Brice are “right up there” with the very best environments in sports, labeling it a “top-5 night environment.”

Simonton described the fans on Saturday as “electric” and gave some strong love to the Gamecocks’ home venue. “When it gets dark in Columbia, that place becomes a house of horrors with Houdini powers — especially if South Carolina is decent (or better). On Saturday, No. 10 Texas A&M learned that lesson the hard way.”

Simonton wasn’t the only national voice hyping up Williams-Brice. SEC Network Chris Doering said on SEC Football Final that Carolina’s venue made Texas A&M’s crowd last week at Kyle Field against LSU “look like a joke.” Cousin Shane from That SEC Podcast declared that he was “surprised half the stadium didn’t come down” thanks to the crowd noise.

This week, South Carolina travels to Nashville, Tennessee for a meeting with the 24th-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. After that, though, the Gamecock Faithful will have an opportunity to return home. If the ‘Cocks kick down the ‘Dores, that home contest against Missouri on November 16th will be rocking once again.
