Jamari Johnson injury update: Jeff Brohm reveals the severity for Louisville TE

An ankle injury will now be the end to the season for Louisville’s Jamari Johnson.

Jeff Brohm updated the status of the Cardinals’ leading tight end during his press conference on Monday. The injury he had last weekend will be a year-ending one based on his brief note on it yesterday.

“He’ll be out for the year,” said Brohm.

Johnson was in his redshirt freshman season with Louisville. After not appearing at all last season, he was their top target at tight end so far this fall. He had caught 13 passes, with exactly two in every game but one, for 158 yards and a touchdown. All of those were top-five among pass catchers for their offense.

The lone score for him was of note too as it was the winning play for the Cardinals the week prior in their win at Virginia.

Johnson played high school football at Inglewood (CA). He was the No. 343 overall recruit and a four-star prospect there in 2023. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as the No. 10 ATH in the class and the No. 26 player in California.

With this injury, Mark Redman would be seeing more action at tight end for Louisville. Through his first season there after transferring in, he has 11 catches for 139 yards and three touchdowns. The trio of scores are already second on the offense behind only the eight from their leading receiver in Ja’Corey Brooks.

Johnson was having a decent first season as part of the Cardinals’ pass attack. However, he’ll now no longer be available for the final five games of it following this update.

Bridgewater has jersey honored during game vs. Miami

One of Louisville’s greatest players ever was honored on Saturday in their game against Miami.

Teddy Bridgewater saw his jersey rest among the all-time greats at the school as it was added to the honored numbers at L&N Stadium.

Bridgewater placed his name in the record books for Louisville, finishing with 9,817 career passing yards. That ranks him as the third all-time leading passer in Cardinals’ football history. In single-season passing yardage, he had two seasons that rank in the top-four in program history (3,970 yards – 2013, 3,718 yards – 2012). Those seasons ranked third and fourth in school history respectively.
