Missouri quarterback Brady Cook heads to locker room after apparent non-contact injury

Missouri quarterback Brady Cook heads to locker room after apparent non-contact injury

Missouri quarterback Brady Cook headed to the locker room after suffering an apparent injury on a sack in the first quarter of a game against Auburn.

Cook appeared to suffer the injury without contact, going down before the pass rush got to him, taking a big loss in the process.

The Missouri starter then jogged off the field at about three-quarters speed, but he did so prior to a third-down snap. He pretty immediately headed to the locker room hurt.

The ESPN broadcast crew calling the game noted they were attempting to get an update in short order and did so after just one series.

“It is good news regarding Brady Cook,” ESPN’s Taylor McGregor reported. “I’m told it is an ankle injury. He went into the locker room. They are currently taping up that ankle, but the expectation is he will return to this game.”

Brady Cook was 3-of-4 passing for 37 yards in the first quarter prior to his injury, while also rushing three times for a loss of six yards. Missouri led 3-0 midway through the first quarter after finishing his opening drive with a field goal.

If he’s limited in the contest it will be a significant blow for a Missouri offense that has already been a little off-kilter in recent weeks.

Brady Cook is the team’s leading passer and third-leading rusher. He has gone 119-of-184 passing for 1,351 yards and seven touchdowns, against just one interception. He’s also run for 124 yards and four scores, proving a capable enough dual-threat when called on in that capacity.

Drew Pyne, a Notre Dame transfer, took over after Cook was injured.

On the season Pyne is 19-of-22 passing for 128 yards, without a touchdown or an interception.
