Mykel Williams injury update: Latest on Georgia defender entering Texas game

Georgia travels to Austin to take on top-ranked Texas in a blockbuster SEC showdown in Week 8, and defensive lineman Mykel Williams‘ status for the game may have been revealed.

Williams has been dealing with an ankle sprain and has played in a limited capacity this season, but appears be full-go against the Longhorns. His presumed return to full-strength is a big boost for the Bulldogs’ defense, especially ahead of a matchup the magnitude of Saturday’s.

“The good news for Georgia, this is the healthiest the Dawgs’ D-line has been all season,” Bruce Feldman said on Big Noon Kickoff ahead of Week 8’s big-time matchup. “Now, this is a group that has struggled to get pressure on the quarterback. Mykel Williams, he is the guy who a lot of people in the NFL scouting world think is a first round pick.

“He has played sparingly since the opener against Clemson, but I’m told he has looked close to 100 percent this week in practice. That’s a big plus.”

Feldman also gave insight on the status of offensive lineman Tate Ratledge, who has been battling an injury of his own since the Kentucky game.

“Tate Ratledge, one of their readers on the O-line, he’s doubtful to play today,” Feldman continued. “He was limited this week in practice.

“On the Texas side, Isaiah Bond — he is the most dynamic of a loaded group of receivers for Texas. He got injured with his ankle last week at Oklahoma. I’m told, later [during the] week, he looked more like his old self, really dynamic. He’s expected to go today for the Longhorns.”

Texas will be glad that Bond is ready to go, as the Alabama transfer is the team’s leading wide receiver with 21 catches for 369 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Kickoff between Texas and Georgia is set for 7:30 p.m. ET live on ABC. The Longhorns are 4.5-point favorites at home heading into Saturday’s headline matchup.
