Notre Dame vs. Stanford: Early point spread released for Legends Trophy game, How to Watch

Notre Dame vs. Stanford: Early point spread released for Legends Trophy game, How to Watch

Notre Dame and Stanford will renew their rivalry matchup next week in South Bend, marking their 27th meeting in the last 28 years. The early point spread has been released for the battle for the Legends Trophy.

Notre Dame opened as a 21.5-point favorite over the Cardinal, according to FanDuel. The over-under also opened at 48.5.

The Fighting Irish spent Week 6 on a bye after a 5-1 start to the season. Last time out, Notre Dame picked up its second ranked victory of the season with a 31-24 win over Louisville in South Bend. Riley Leonard was efficient as a passer in the effort and the defense made some big plays to send the Irish into the bye week with some momentum.

As for Stanford, the Cardinal will take a break from ACC play by heading to Notre Dame Stadium. They took a 1-1 conference record into Saturday’s matchup against Virginia Tech, which saw the Hokies come away with the victory to drop Stanford to a 1-2 record in league action.

Notre Dame took plenty of momentum into the bye week after picking up another ranked win. That moved the Fighting Irish to 5-1, and there were some encouraging signs from the offense. Riley Leonard completed 17 of 23 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns while leading the running game with 52 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The defense also made some big plays, recovering two fumbles and recording an interception when Xavier Watts picked off Tyler Shough. After the game, though, Marcus Freeman said the Fighting Irish still have a long way to go. That’s where the bye week will be important.

“Yeah, we have to get better,” Freeman said, via Blue and Gold’s Kyle Kelly. “That’s the most important thing. Part of this week will be out recruiting. You know, we have to continue to recruit and go see some guys.

“But the main emphasis of this week is how do we improve. Part of improving will be to get healthy. (We) got to get healthy in areas that we can. Got to look at schematically where can we continue to enhance. We have to get better. I’m confident we will.”
