Buckeyes open week favored for top-10 matchup at Oregon

Buckeyes open week favored for top-10 matchup at Oregon

COLUMBUS — It’s finally here. Ohio State is undefeated, and so is Oregon. Now it’s the week of the most anticipated Big Ten matchup so far this season.

The Buckeyes stayed perfect by taking down Iowa at home. Oregon scored a home win of its own, destroying Michigan State. Both held up their end of the bargain to make this such a pivotal matchup with Big Ten title and national championship implications.

Ohio State will hit the road later this week ahead of the matchup, and the Buckeyes will head West as a 3.5-point favorite, according to the folks over at Fanduel Sportsbook. The total is set at 53.5 points.

The Buckeyes have done a good job of easily taking care of the first five opponents faced this season. This year so far has been a build up the matchup against Oregon. Each of the five opponents on the schedule has been better than the last.

Oregon will be the toughest the Buckeyes have seen — by far.

“They’re all big, but just the way the schedule has played, the competition has ramped up each week,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “Here we go. This is going to be a great opponent and we’re looking forward to going across the country and playing them.”

With five wins already in the books for both the Buckeyes and Ducks, game week is finally here. The road team will head West for the first time in Big Ten play as a narrow favorite in a new conference rivalry.

+ Ohio State is 3-2 against the spread this season
+ Oregon is 1-4 against the number
+ The Buckeyes have won nine of their 10 all-time games against Oregon
+ The total has gone over in three of the five Ohio State games so far

+ The last two meetings between these teams have been split. Ohio State beat Oregon 42-20 in the 2014 national title game, while Oregon beat Ohio State 35-28 in Columbus back in 2021.
+ The Buckeyes are 1-2-1 against the spread on the road against top-10 teams under Ryan Day
+ The last time Oregon was an underdog, the Ducks lost to Washington on the road last season
+ Under Dan Lanning, the Ducks are 1-2 straight up when underdogs
