When Nick Saban went on The Pat McAfee Show and said “The only place that’s not hard to play in the SEC is Vanderbilt” nobody thought anything of it. Not too many would disagree with him, considering the state of the Commodores program over the years. Saban himself did not have any problems in Nashville, winning both of his trips there.

Those words fired back on Saturday as Alabama was upset by Vanderbilt, a historic win for the program. Just after the final knee was taken by Vandy quarterback Diego Pavia, the jumbotron played the video of Saban making his remarks.

In a night when Alabama is going to have a few people trolling them, this one from Vanderbilt might wind up taking the crown. Billy Derrick of The George Plaster Show was able to capture the moment and posted the video on his X account.

Saban played Vanderbilt on the road twice during his time with Alabama, winning by 14 and 59. There was some ease with those victories, specifically the second one. Jalen Hurts balled out before the entire country learned the talent that was Tua Tagovailoa.

Unfortunately for Saban’s successor, Kalen DeBoer, his first trip to Vanderbilt was not as kind.

Vanderbilt pulls off upset of No. 1 Alabama

Alabama spent all week looking to avoid the trap game/rat poison heading into the Vanderbilt game. A huge win against Georgia made national headlines for days and was even talked about on Saturday. And with a dangerous team, led by Diego Pavia, a tough game was ahead of the Crimson Tide.

Well, the mindset Kalen DeBoer tried to instill in his team fell a little short. Vanderbilt came out on with a ton of confidence, controlled the clock, and pulled off a historic upset against Alabama. Down goes the No. 1 ranked team in college football — a massive victory for Clark Lea and his program.

“I’m proud of our team,” Lea said postgame as fans stormed the field. “I believe in our team, I believe in what we’re building. There’s more for us than this. This isn’t the finishing point but it’s a hell of an arrival. Tonight, we’ll celebrate it. I love this university, I love this team. Let’s go get some more.”
