Hugh Freeze reveals pregame message to team vs Georgia
Auburn‘s Week 6 matchup against Georgia is being looked at as a perfect opportunity for Hugh Freeze and company to put themselves back on the national stage.
Sitting at 2-3 and looking for their first SEC win of the season, turnovers have been one of the Tigers’ biggest issues heading into Saturday’s road trip. Freeze revealed the pregame message — or lack thereof — that he sent his team this week on the pressing matter.
“Well, we quit talking about it,” Freeze told ESPN’s Molly McGrath. “I think our players know from watching the film that we’re not lying to them. They have had chances to win football games, and it’s like man, playing a par five and you hit three of the best shots, and you leave there somehow with a double bogey and it’s kind of the way we’ve felt. And, yeah, we just didn’t talk about it and just kept preparing like we’ve been.
“Hopefully we find ourselves in a game with another top 10 opponent close in the fourth quarter with a chance to win it. I think all it takes is for us to get through one of those, and these young kids will really start.”
Auburn will come to Athens with a record of 2-3, including an 0-2 start in the SEC, after a five-game start to the season on The Plains. They’ll now play the entire month of October away from Jordan-Hare against quality competition, including this weekend against a top-five opponent in UGA.
Georgia is then at 3-1 after their first regular-season loss since November of 2020. Still, they remain one of the top teams in the country and will be over a three-possession favorite inside Sanford Stadium on Saturday in just their second home game of the season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET live on ABC as both teams look to bounce back after their Week 5 losses. The game can also be aired on ESPN+.
