Conner Weigman near flawless in return, praises teammates: ‘Guys got tremendously better’

No. 25 Texas A&M played host to No. 9 Missouri on Saturday, looking to ring up a fifth straight win as the Mike Elko era gets cooking with gas. And quarterback Conner Weigman was back after recovering from a sprained AC joint in his shoulder.

The starting quarterback slipped right back into rhythm, helping the Aggies out to an early lead that they’d lean on throughout the game.

“I mean just stick with the gameplan,” Weigman said of his goal going in. “I trust what our coaches do. Guys got tremendously better over those three weeks I was out. Just ride with my guys, give it to my playmakers, let them make plays.”

They certainly did that.

Texas A&M piled up 512 yards of offense and Conner Weigman was near perfect in the win. He finished 18-of-22 passing for 276 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown pass, but he also didn’t throw an interception.

He simply set the Aggies up to punch it in on the ground, where they couldn’t be stopped.

LeVeon Moss ran for 138 yards and three scores, while Amari Daniels scored twice and logged 34 yards rushing.

Missouri had no answers for Conner Weigman and company, who treated it as an opportunity to make a real statement in the conference race, which Texas A&M is leading at 3-0.

“I mean it’s a big game,” Weigman said. “Top 10 team coming into our house, come set the tone early and that’s how we’re going to play the rest of the season.”

The Aggies led the Tigers 24-0 at the half and completely dominated from start to finish. The defensive front was up to the task against Missouri quarterback Brady Cook, who was sacked six times.

To add insult to injury, even the video board operator trolled Brady Cook and the Tigers, pulling a quip from Cook about how the noise in practice was actually louder than what he’d experience at Kyle Field.

Cook might be thinking about that one twice after Saturday. Meanwhile, Conner Weigman appears to be back in form for one of the nation’s hottest teams.

Texas A&M will return to action after a bye week, taking on Mississippi State on Oct. 19.
