South Carolina was delayed but it wasn’t denied.

Months after Rock Hill (S.C.) class of 2025 four-star wide receiver Malik Clark announced a pledge to Florida State, the Gamecocks got the big recruiting win they wanted when Clark committed to Carolina today, days after he backed off the FSU pledge.

In addition to FSU, Clark had offers from North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Auburn, Virginia Tech, and Ole Miss, among many others.

“I mean, of course they’re the home team, so it’s right down the road (and) that’s nice,” he said of the Gamecocks in June. “I like Coach (Shane) Beamer. He’s a great dude. I like the production of the receivers that they put into the league. They put in like 12 in the last five, six years, so I like the way they get receivers to the league. I like the way they use their receivers, like they used Xavier Legette last year.”

Mike Furrey joined the South Carolina staff as receivers coach in late February and quickly prioritized the talented wide receiver target.

“He’s good people. I like him. I like what he stands for. I like him as a person. I like him as a coach,” Clark said of Furrey in June. “I got to see him coach his wide receivers at the spring practice that we went to like a month ago. I liked how he coached his receivers. I like the drills that he did. I like how he’s got them rolling through the depth chart, things like that.”

Clark caught 35 passes for 679 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior this past season.

The On3 Industry Ranking considers the 6-foot-2.5, 180-pound Clark Clark the No. 222 overall prospect and No. 28 wide receiver in the 2025 class. He is ranked the No. 3 prospect in the state of South Carolina.

Clark is the latest prospect to commit to South Carolina from Rock Hill, the football-crazed town affectionately called “Football City USA” that produced Gamecock superstars Jadeveon Clowney and Stephon Gilmore during the Steve Spurrier era.

Clark is the fifth wide receiver, four of which are four-star prospects, to commit to South Carolina, joining Lex Cyrus, Brian Rowe, and Jayden Sellers — and Ridge View wide receiver Jordon Gidron, who announced on Friday that he was not only committing to Carolina but reclassifying to the 2025 class.
