Florida could be without one of its top weapons on Saturday against UCF. Star receive Eugene Wilson could be set to miss a third straight game, according to Matt Zenitz.

Wilson has been out since early September with a meniscus injury suffered in the Samford game in Week 2. He is second on the team in catches with 13 receptions for 191 yards, despite missing two games.

Zenitz posted an update on Eugene Wilson Saturday morning on Twitter.

“There’s some skepticism right now that Florida star wide receiver Eugene Wilson will end up playing vs. UCF today but a final decision isn’t expected to be made until after pre-game warmups,” Zenitz posted.

Gators head coach Billy Napier provided an update Eugene Wilson earlier this week. The update was a positive one.

“We feel good about his progress. … Has done some things in practice. He took some reps today,” Napier said.

Florida would obviously love to have Wilson available as this is a huge game against UCF. The Gators have already lost to Miami this season and want to avoid dropping another game to an in-state foe.

Kickoff at The Swamp is set for 7:45 p.m., so we likely won’t know more about Wilson’s status for Saturday’s game until later in the day.

Eugene Wilson III as a true freshman

Wilson led all FBS true freshmen in receptions per game (6.1) in 2023 while ranking second in catches (61), tied-second in receiving TDs (six), fourth in receiving YPG (53.8) and seventh in receiving yards (538). He was the first Florida true freshman to eclipse 500 receiving yards since Antonio Callaway in 2015.

Wilson set a UF freshman record last season with a career-high 11 receptions against Georgia. In Week 10 vs. Arkansas, he also became the first true freshman receiver at Florida to record multiple touchdowns in a contest since Riley Cooper recorded three in 2006 against Western Carolina.

Wilson was named an On3 True Freshman All-American and Freshman All-SEC.
