No. 25 Hart County remains undefeated with 40-21 road win over Adair County

No. 25 Hart County remains undefeated with 40-21 road win over Adair County

The No. 25 ranked Hart County Raiders snuck into KSR’s Top 25 rankings after a decisive 55-28 win over Caverna last week and an unscathed 6-0 record. The Raiders’ showing at Adair County Friday night proved why they’re on the statewide radar. They play with heart (no pun intended).

The Raiders (now 7-0) traveled to Adair County (6-1) and claimed the crown, defeating the Indians 40-21 while continuing their undefeated campaign.

Through the air or on their feet, the Raiders converted multiple downs to keep giving themselves options, displaying the range of their fast-paced offense.

It’s a testament to our program,” head coach Chad Griffin said on the team’s offensive prowess. “We pride ourselves in running the ball, playing defense and getting off the ball, and that’s what people are starting to see.”

The Raiders beat Adair County to the punch, marking the first touchdown of the game courtesy of senior RB Kameron Asbury’s speed. A two-point conversion gave the Raiders the lead at 8-0 later in the first quarter.

Adair County had an immediate answer, with Lane Grant scoring on their next drive to tie it up at 8-8. But, Jacob Shoulders found Jake Crump in the air, and the Raiders reclaimed the lead at 14-8 with seconds to go in the first quarter.

Hart County generated the same momentum through the second quarter and found the end zone with a power play by Kohnner Trent to go up 20-8 midway through the second.

With seconds to go in the second quarter, Hart County put one more score on the board to stretch their lead to 27-8. But Adair County reminded everyone of their presence. With under seven seconds to go, the Indians notched a quick touchdown off of a wild play to take some momentum into their locker room, ending the half at 27-15.

The Raiders came into the second half cool and stuck to the script. After Shoulders intercepted a pass, Hart County went to score on the next drive, courtesy of a huge run by senior Brenen Griffin. The third quarter closed with no scores.

The teams would go on to trade touchdowns in the fourth, leaving the final score of the night at 40-21. The Raiders played a full four quarters in a wire-to-wire win.

“They understand how to be winners, and that’s being 1-0 [every day], and everyone wants to be a part of it,” Coach Griffin added after the game. “Winning is contagious, and we’ve got kids that just want to show up.

I think we’re better. We’re more explosive on offense, defensively we’re pretty dang gritty, we’ve just got heart.”

Hart County is headed into a bye-week, but looks ahead to play Glasgow at home on Friday Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. CT.
