Legacy Motor Club nabs technical director Brian Campe from Hendrick Motorsports

Legacy Motor Club nabs technical director Brian Campe from Hendrick Motorsports

Another major hire for Legacy Motor Club, they have hired Brian Campe as new technical director, wrestling him away from Hendrick Motorsports. Legacy has made a lot of hires for their NASCAR Cup program and this is the latest.

Jimmie Johnson and Maury Gallagher are hiring the best of the best. It is clear that they have a long-term plan for this team. They are not working with Joe Gibbs Racing like 23XI Racing does to get a jump on performance.

Instead, it is all being done in-house. That means it won’t be as easy and the results might not show up in the short-term. But if it works out and they make it the distance, they could be building something great.

Do you like this hire from Legacy Motor Club?

Brian Campe has worked in NASCAR and IndyCar for a number of years. He got his start with Dale Earnhardt, Inc. working on Paul Menard’s team as a data acquisition and race engineer.

From there, he was able to move on to Hendrick Motorsports, JR Motorsports, Team Penske (IndyCar), and then back to Hendrick Motorsports. You may have heard his name come up during Kyle Larson’s Double Duty attempt this year. He was the strategist in that Hendrick-Arrow McLaren effort.

“LEGACY M. C. has been on a mission to acquire world-class team members. That quest has led us to some extraordinary people that now includes Brian Campe,” said Cal Wells III, CEO of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. “There’s no doubt the opportunity to have Brian lead our engineering efforts into the future and will ultimately place LEGACY M. C. among the truly elite within NASCAR’s Cup Series.”

Cal Wells III is another one of these recent hires that Legacy Motor Club has made. Jimmie Johnson has surrounded his team with a lot of top talent in the offices and the garage.

“The addition of a talent like Brian Campe is integral to the success of LEGACY M.C.,” Johnson said of Campe in a press release. Brian’s experience with championship teams like Hendrick and Penske will make him a huge asset to LEGACY M.C., and we are eager to see the improvement his leadership will bring to the engineering arm of the CLUB.”

Of course, we shouldn’t overlook the fact Johnson and Campe were at Hendrick together. That is until Campe moved to JR Motorsports in 2008. Still, that Hendrick connection is there.

This is another move from Legacy that makes sense. They are trying to build the best organization that they can. However, the results on the track have been lacking. Eventually, it takes the right hire behind the wheel and behind the desk at the organization.
