Tim Tebow: Missouri makes this ‘a statement weekend’ for Texas A&M, Mike Elko

Tim Tebow: Missouri makes this ‘a statement weekend’ for Texas A&M, Mike Elko

Texas A&M is in the final spot of the Top-25 coming into the first weekend of October. However, with a win tomorrow over No. 9 Missouri, Tim Tebow thinks the Aggies could prove what they can be over the next few weeks of the fall.

Tebow assessed A&M’s matchup with Mizzou while on ‘The Paul Finebaum Show’ on Friday. He thinks this is a significant chance for them to defeat a quality opponent on their turf in College Station. If they do, we could see them rank even higher as the season goes on. If not, similar narratives about them could start again

“I’m excited to see a huge opportunity for A&M,” said Tebow. “Obviously, Aggie Nation is going to show up. The 12th Man is going to be there. This is a statement weekend for them.”

Like, everything is in front of them. You can make a statement. You can beat a Top-10 team at home, gain a lot of momentum,” Tebow continued. “If you fall short, so many people will be like, ‘Oh, it’s sort of the same A&M’.”

After losing their opener to Notre Dame, Texas A&M has gone on to win four straight almost inaudibly. Two were over McNeese and a closer one against Bowling Green but they also won their first two in conference play at Florida and over Arkansas.

With that, Tebow sees a team that’s improving around the halfway point of their debut season under Mike Elko. They are doing so on both sides of the ball too down in Aggieland.

“They’re a team that’s getting better. They’re really taking on his personality and I also even think Colin (Klein’s) personality on offense with all of the different things that they’re doing,” said Tebow. “It’s a really good front seven. Their back end is improving. They gave a really good offense with Taylen Green, (Ja’Quinden) Jackson, and so many weapons that have been playing well? Besides the third play of the game where they had a broken-play touchdown, they really got shut out the rest of the game. Their other touchdown came on a turnover and then they were able to capitalize on it. This defense is really improving. They’re really playing well. Marcel Reed is kind of taking the next steps. They’re inconsistent a little offensively but they’re getting better.”

“You can see where they can be,” Tebow said.

After a four-game winning streak and with an easier schedule than in years past, Texas A&M is set up very well if they move to 5-1 with a win against the Tigers on Saturday. That’s why many are emphasizing the importance of this one to this season and this tenure, including Tebow earlier today.

“I think this is a massive weekend for A&M,” said Tebow.
