2026 QB Cash Herrera commits to Iowa over UCLA: ‘I felt most comfortable and at home’

2026 QB Cash Herrera commits to Iowa over UCLA: ‘I felt most comfortable and at home’

Since summer visits, Cash Herrera has had Iowa and UCLA on top of his list. The quarterback out of San Diego The Bishop’s School planned to take his time with his recruitment, but after a visit to Iowa City early in September, his plans changed.

The three-star has committed to Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes.

“My visit for the Iowa State game was super influential in my decision,” Herrera told On3. “I was able to see a game day environment and the energy. As well as how my family was treated.

“I wanted to wait [to commit] originally but after talking with my family and coaches, it felt best to do it now. I had such a great relationship and there was no point in waiting.”

Herrera is Iowa’s second commitment for 2026. He joins four-star offensive tackle Carson Neilsen and he chose the Hawkeyes for multiple reasons.

“I committed to Iowa over UCLA because I felt most comfortable and at home. When I got to Iowa, there was a different atmosphere and family feeling than I felt anywhere else. As well as I connected with the staff right away and created a great relationship with them. Also, it is the best fit for me with it being a small town and heavily involved with ball and school.”

Tim Lester was the leader in Herrera’s recruitment. The two established a relationship quickly. Herrera likes his experience and knowledge of the quarterback position. He played a role in his commitment and how he made Herrera feel as a quarterback target.

“Iowa made me feel great and wanted. They brought me in as family which felt very good. I think them and UCLA were close in how they made me feel, but the vibe at Iowa is great. Like I said earlier, the game day is what really brought me in because of how rowdy it gets there. I like that everyone is bought into the game and just not there to be there.”

Herrera made his decision about a week ago.
