Houston commit, Catholic-BR DB Jacob Bradford enters hometown LSU visit with open mind

Houston commit, Catholic-BR DB Jacob Bradford enters hometown LSU visit with open mind

LSU will use this weekend’s bye to host several current 2025 commits on official visits — and one of Louisiana’s top flip candidates.

Catholic (Baton Rouge) defensive back and Houston commit Jacob Bradford will make the short trip to campus during his Bears’ own bye week.

The versatile athlete, a four-star safety prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings, committed June 23 to the Cougars, but received a hometown Tigers’ offer heading into his senior season he admitted represented a notable new wrinkle in his recruiting process.

LSU has remained in almost-daily contact during the five weeks since the offer, he said, with safeties coach Jake Olsen and recruiting specialist Sherman Wilson leading the charge.

“Right now I feel good, it’s just I’ll go into wherever I go with an open mind and see where it takes me,” Bradford said. “Most places that I visit, I like already. I’m not just about to go just to see if I’m going to like them — it’s I already like them, so I’m gonna give them a chance to see what they have.

“And I like LSU, Houston, both of ’em. I like ’em both. I like the hometown, but I like the city, Houston, and it’s not that far.”

Bradford said he isn’t going into the weekend with any specific questions he hopes to be answered, so much as just looking forward to an opportunity to spend time with the other prospects and the Tigers’ staff.

“I know pretty much all of (the other visitors), and I’m just excited just to hang out with people and be at a hometown college,” he said. “But nothing really special. I would say if something pops up and I see it, I’ll be like, ‘Oh, I like that,’ but I couldn’t tell you exactly what I would like to see or anything like that.”

Bradford isn’t sure yet what the rest of his visit schedule might entail, but the Tigers aren’t the only program closely monitoring his season and recruitment and expressing some interest in potentially pressing for a late flip.

Oregon has been the other most-notable presence with defensive analyst Antonio Parks, a former East St. John standout always active recruiting his home state, and co-defensive coordinator Chris Hampton, the former Tulane defensive coordinator, at the forefront.

“(Parks) is good, he’s from down here, my dad was his principal,” Bradford smiled. “He’s a cool guy. I respect him. And I respect all that they’re doing up there in Oregon. It’s a good facility when I went up there.

“And I’ve talked a little bit to Texas A&M, and I’ve heard something about Tennessee, Ole Miss. There’s a couple schools that are there, but they haven’t offered me yet, so I can’t do anything with that.”

Bradford is confident he can play anywhere in the country and anywhere he’s asked to in a respective secondary.

He said a versatility of his on-field role has been a consistent outlook with coaches from different programs, including LSU where he would potentially join a class with safeties Jhase Thomas and CJ Jimcoily and corners DJ Pickett, Kade Phillips and Aidan Anding.

“Everywhere I’ve been, they’ve said I can play safety, corner or nickel,” Bradford said when asked about his potential LSU fit. “But I think they’re probably leaning more toward a slot-nickel with probably a little corner.”
