4-star PG Chris Jeffrey commits to Maryland

4-star PG Chris Jeffrey commits to Maryland

Chris Jeffrey, a four-star point guard in the 2025 class, has committed to Maryland and head coach Kevin Willard, he told On3.

The 6-foot-3 point guard out of Mt. Zion Prep (MD) ultimately chose the Terrapins over Texas A&M and Mississippi State, but he also received offers from Butler, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Penn State, and Tennessee.

Jeffrey, a native of Brooklyn, NY, is the No. 69 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to On3’s Top-150 Player Rankings. He’s also the No. 9 point guard prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Jeffrey on why he chose Maryland

Chris Jeffrey discussed his decision with On3.

“I chose Maryland because it felt like home the moment I stepped on campus,” he said, “Also, Coach Willard does a great job with point guards so I feel I can be the next great point guard he has developed.”

What led to his trust in coach Willard and the staff?

“Coach Willard and the staff have been honest with me since we met, telling me things I’ve done good but also saying things I don’t want to hear. So after I realized that I knew these are the coaches that are going to push me to be the best I can be.”

In his own words, what type of player is Maryland getting in Chris Jeffrey?

“I am a leader, can get downhill, knockdown the open shot and I can defend 1-3.”

He has a message for ‘Terp fans.

“Wassup Terp fans, I’m excited to play in the Xfinity center and bring the NY swag to the DMV. Let’s win a National Championship!”

Named one of the Top-10 Defensive Stoppers & one of the biggest Stock Risers of Peach Jam

According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, Chris Jeffrey is one of the top-10 defensive stoppers in the 2025 class:

“Chris Jeffrey is a very strong and very physical guy at the point of attack. And just as much as he touches the paint on offense, his physicality on the defensive end makes it tough for the other team to get paint touches. Jeffrey has a 6-foot-3 frame with a plus wing span. Not only is he strong but he has quick hands and he is very competitive. He averaged 2.0 steals per game at Peach Jam. Jeffrey switched on and off the ball and consistently made things tough for his opponents.”

Also according to Shaw, Jeffrey’s was one of the five biggest stock risers following the EYBL Peach Jam, which took place in July:

“Toughness personified. That might be the best way to describe Chris Jeffrey’s game. The strong-framed and long-armed 6-foot-3 lead guard lived in the paint while defensively disrupting the point-of-attack. Throughout Peach Jam, the Lanham (MD) Mt. Zion Prep guard averaged 17.0 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. The No. 69 overall player in the 2025 On3 150 saw his production come in an efficient manner shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three on 1.7 attempts per game.”
