Shedeur Sanders addresses awkward pregame moment with Cam Newton

Shedeur Sanders addresses awkward pregame moment with Cam Newton

When Colorado traveled to Orlando to face UCF, some big names were on the sideline to watch. Cam Newton had the most interaction with Buffaloes players, with not all of it being positive. There was an awkward moment with Shedeur Sanders during pregame warmups captured and posted on social media.

Sanders had the opportunity to address the situation, saying there was not much to it. The awkwardness stems from comments Newton previously made about the Colorado quarterback, something Sanders did not agree with.

“I was just saying what’s up,” Sanders said. “That’s all that really happened. He said something, personally, I didn’t agree with. We talked about it and we had a great conversation but how I feel is how I feel about anything and everything. I just got to work in areas of my life about forgiving. That’s what Dad teaches me overall.”

Back in April, Newton opined that Sanders was not worthy of being a top-four selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. He believed Atlanta could be a destination at the time but the Falcons took Michael Penix Jr. this past draft. Newton’s overall point was Sanders needed to be put in a good situation in order to have success in the NFL.

Now, Sanders did not say those were the specific comments he was upset about with Newton. However, he is looking for advice from former quarterbacks, not criticism. Sanders states he wants to grow as a player in the position and be able to work at it in order to get better.

“I’m just in a point right now where I just like people that play the position and understand show some support,” Sanders said. “That’s all I want, to get support from the people that played the position. But I’m okay with people criticizing my game and I want to know. I like knowing ‘Cool, what does this person think I should do better?’ So I can work on it and be able to get better at it.”
