‘Don’t want that to happen ever again’: Ole Miss called an offense-only meeting after Kentucky

‘Don’t want that to happen ever again’: Ole Miss called an offense-only meeting after Kentucky

Perhaps most surprising in Ole Miss’ face-plant against Kentucky was the bulk of its issues stemmed from straight up offensive incompetency.

So, third-year starting quarterback Jaxson Dart led an offense-only meeting on Sunday morning to discuss things. Second-year wide receiver Cayden Lee detailed the meeting in a post-practice media session on Tuesday.

Lee expects better for the Rebels Saturday at South Carolina. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

“We had an offensive meeting Sunday morning. Kind of talked things over — how we felt, where things went negative and what we could have done better,” Lee said. “Just more how we’re going to do things going forward and what we can do different.

“We don’t want that result to happen ever again. (Dart’s) one of the guys that definitely took it the hardest. Sunday he led the meeting and just talked things over. He’s definitely taking it hard. I feel like this week he’s got something in store. We’re going to do really good.”

Lee is second on Ole Miss in receptions and yards.

Tre Harris leads the nation in receiving yards (804).

A distant second in the SEC is Alabama’s Ryan Williams (462), who was arguably the standout of the college football weekend in the Tide’s win over Georgia.

“One thing I can just say about our receiver room in particular is no one is just, ‘I want the ball, I want the ball.’ We support each other every single time, whether it’s Trey getting the ball or Juice (Wells) gets the ball or (Jordan Watkins) gets the ball,” Lee said.

“We’re just happy for one anther. But whenever the ball finds you, you’ve got to be ready for it. Just kind of the mindset I took going into the season. When the play comes my way, you’ve got to make it.”

Lee is ascending while one-time decorated signee Ayden Williams continues to mostly ride the bench outside of blocking duties.

“Not negative, just playing a role,” Lee said of his fellow Ole Miss sophomore’s current mindset. “We’re all playing a role. When the ball comes his way, he’s going to make the play.”

Lee, Ole Miss defensive tackle Walter Nolen and linebacker Chris ‘Pooh’ Paul all met the media Tuesday to preview South Carolina. The included videos were provided by Ole Miss Sports Production.
