Mike Norvell shares how late season reps helped prepare Brock Glenn for opportunity

Mike Norvell shares how late season reps helped prepare Brock Glenn for opportunity

Redshirt freshman quarterback Brock Glenn will start for Florida State this weekend once again after leading the team in last year’s ACC Championship and Orange Bowl games. Taking over under center for an injured DJ Uiagalelei as the Seminoles host No. 15 ranked Clemson.

Glenn’s experience as a starter is not extensive and was not very productive when closing out Florida State’s season last year. But head coach Mike Norvell is confident in his past reps as a starter and growth heading into Saturday’s game.

“One of the things that I appreciated, even in those two games, is you saw a big step and for me in the things that he was asked to do. I saw a big step in improvement, some mistakes he made in the first game that he got corrected in the second game,” Norvell said.

Following late-season injuries to Jordan Travis and Tate Rodemaker, Glenn made his first career start as a true freshman in the ACC Championship game. Completing 38.1% of his passes for just 55 yards in a 16-6 win over Louisville, followed by a 139-yard, two-interception performance in a 63-3 loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

“We got to make sure we own the ball and we got to make sure that as an offense we got to take what they’re giving us. Obviously, we’re going to be aggressive, we’re going to do the things that we can to be able to impact the game. But we also got to make sure that we’re owning possessions,” Norvell explained.

It’s no secret that the Seminoles have struggled offensively this year with Uiagalelei quarterbacking the offense. Ranked last in the ACC in points and yards per game, also ranking within the bottom 10 in each category for the entire FBS.

“When you look at this season for the way that we played and even some of the times, the lack of production. When you look at the difference in what we’ve given up and what we’ve scored, I mean it’s almost equal to the number of points off turnovers, and that’s where we have to get better,” Norvell explained. “And we got to create takeaways defensively to be able to to get the shorter fields, to be able to have those opportunities, and that’s one thing that we’re really trying to emphasize within this team.”

There are plenty of areas that the Seminoles need to improve if they want to pull out a big win against the Tigers this weekend. Something that they’re hoping Glenn can help them achieve in Tallahassee this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET.
