Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard had his best statistical performance through the air this past Saturday when the Fighting Irish knocked off the Louisville Cardinals 31-24. He completed 17 of 23 passes for 163 yards with 2 touchdowns. And on the ground, he added 52 yards and a score on 13 carries.
For this performance, he received a few national honors.
One of them was being listed as the No. 3 transfer portal impact player for Week 5 according to On3’s Pete Nakos:
Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard had his most complete outing of the season in a 31-24 win over No. 15 Louisville. The Fighting Irish quarterback was 17 of 23 for 163 yards and two touchdowns, his first two-touchdown (passing) performance of the season. He also rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown. Notre Dame is 4-1 and has won three straight after losing to Northern Illinois.
He was also picked for the Davey O’Brien Great 8 for Week Five. It was his second time being listed with the honor for this season; the other time it occurred was for his game against Purdue a few weeks ago.
Leonard ranks fourth among all FBS quarterbacks in rushing touchdowns this season with seven, and third among all FBS QBs in yards per carry (6.34). Four of Leonard’s rushes Saturday were for first downs. He owns 26 rushing touchdowns on his career, tied for second among all active FBS quarterbacks.
Last but certainly not least was Leonard being named the Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week.
